Sony has confirmed the PlayStation Plus Essential games for September 2026: Sniper Elite: Resistance, MLB The Show 26, Wobbly Life and Chained Echoes. All four became claimable on 1 September and stay on offer until 5 October 2026 across every PS Plus tier. As of 21 September the claim window has less than two weeks remaining. Here is what each one is, which console versions are included, and what follows once the window closes.
What was announced and where
PlayStation Blog’s 26 August post, written by Adam Michel, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Director of Content Acquisition and Operations, set out the line-up and the claim window. The same post reminded members that August’s games (Dying Light 2 Stay Human: Reloaded Edition, Big Walk and Signalis) were claimable until Monday 31 August, so that earlier window has now closed.

Chained Echoes is offered as a PS4 title, so PS5 owners run it through backward compatibility rather than a native PS5 build.
Sniper Elite: Resistance
The 2025 entry in the series is set in occupied France and runs parallel to the events of Sniper Elite 5, with Harry Hawker as the lead. This is a tactical third-person shooter focused on stealth and sniping mechanics. PlayStation Blog outlines a full campaign playable in co-op, the returning “Axis Invasion” mode where players engage in cat-and-mouse competitive gameplay, 16-player online competitive battles and a four-player Survival mode where you face waves of enemies. The game includes character and loadout customisation alongside a progression system of XP and medals, which makes it the most conventional big-budget pick of the month with deeper systems than a casual player might expect.
It also has a second life ahead. PlayStation Blog’s 9 September Game Catalog post confirms Sniper Elite: Resistance joins the Extra and Premium catalogue on 29 September. Essential members therefore get it roughly a month before Extra members would otherwise see it, and anyone on a higher tier can claim it now rather than waiting. For players interested in the multiplayer modes or extended post-game grind, claiming early maximises your time before the player-base shifts to the newer catalogue tier.
MLB The Show 26
MLB The Show 26 is this year’s edition of the baseball series and the only PS5-only title of the four. PlayStation Blog emphasises immersive gameplay with enhanced modes and stadium effects. The Road To The Show career mode includes participation in an MLB Draft Combine and introduces 11 new college teams for the first time. The Diamond Dynasty mode lets you build squads featuring players from all baseball eras, including new Red Diamond rarity cards from the World Baseball Classic and All-Star Game series.
PS Plus members receive exclusive early access to the Jump Start Bundle containing card packs and equipment, available through 6 October. Because it is the current season’s game rather than last year’s, it is the one most likely to lose relevance first as the next edition approaches, which is a reason to claim it early even if you are unsure whether you will play it. The early access to the Jump Start Bundle adds extra value if you do decide to engage with the online progression systems.
Wobbly Life
Wobbly Life is a family-friendly co-op sandbox described by PlayStation Blog as an open-world game emphasising interactivity and accessibility. Players can explore solo or with up to three others via online or local co-op, completing story missions with unique rewards. The Arcade mode offers customisable mini-games including Trash Zone, Hide & Seek, Wobble Run and Sandbox experiences across new areas, which makes it the obvious shared-couch option in this line-up for Australian households with mixed ages. According to PlayStation Blog, you control heroes travelling through diverse landscapes—from plateaus to sunken cities—using swords, magic and mechanical suits to resolve conflicts between three kingdoms. It is a well-regarded independent release offered as a PS4 title only, so expect it to install and run as a PS4 game on your PS5 through backward compatibility. If you have been putting off a retro-styled role-playing game because of the time commitment, having it sit in your library at no extra cost removes the main barrier. The single-player focus and narrative emphasis make it a strong choice for gaming sessions where you want a story-driven experience without the coordination demands of multiplayer.
How claiming works
Open each game’s page on the PlayStation Store and add it to your library before 5 October 2026. Once added, the game remains in your library for as long as you keep an active PS Plus subscription, and you can download it whenever you like. Adding it to the library is what matters; you do not need to install anything before the deadline.
PlayStation Blog does not publish a time of day for the cut-off, so treat 5 October as the last safe day rather than assuming you have until the end of the Australian evening.

September’s line-up spans four distinct player types. Sniper Elite: Resistance targets players who want a narrative campaign and competitive multiplayer depth in one package. MLB The Show 26 serves baseball fans and sports-game enthusiasts, particularly those building Diamond Dynasty squads across multiple seasons. Wobbly Life is the household-friendly option that accommodates mixed-age co-op play, either on a couch or online. Chained Echoes appeals to single-player RPG fans without multiplayer requirements. The breadth means there is a genuine claim reason for renewal for different subscription holders—this is not a line-up weighted toward one player archetype. No subscription month is a clean win for every player, but September’s coverage across action, sports, co-op and narrative RPG is broad enough to justify adding at least one title to most players’ backlogs.
What happens next
Sniper Elite: Resistance moves into the Extra and Premium Game Catalog on 29 September, alongside the other September catalogue additions covered in our PS Plus Extra and Premium September 2026 breakdown. Essential members can therefore play it for the duration of their Essential subscription once the October Essential line-up launches; moving to a higher tier remains optional. Sony normally reveals the following month’s Essential games in the final week of the month, so expect the October line-up to be announced in late September; no date has been given.
