Fortnite’s Chapter 7 Season 4, titled Override, launched on the Epic Games Store on 20 August 2026 and runs through 31 October. The season’s core mechanic — Override Consoles paired with Cheat Codes — lets players alter match rules mid-game. The season’s tagline, “Break the Rules, Change the Game,” reflects its focus on rewriting established gameplay. As of 21 September, the PAC-MAN crossover event is live with limited-time cosmetics and arcade-themed gameplay lasting until 25 September in the Item Shop.

Override Consoles: match-changing gameplay
Season 4’s headline feature is the ability to activate server-wide match overrides. According to The Click’s guide, Override Consoles appear in each match and change gameplay rules for the entire server once activated — a first-come, first-served mechanic that rewards map awareness and speed. You find the console icon on your mini-map, reach it before other players, and select an available override. Your player name displays around the console base so all players know who has activated it.
The overrides themselves modify core game rules. Available effects include increased XP rewards, faster sprinting, infinite stamina, accelerated weapon firing, quicker weapon reloads, and enhanced fishing spots with Golden Fishing Spots. Some rare Squad Overrides benefit only the squad that claims them, but broadcast that squad’s location to all players — a strategic risk-reward trade-off that forces decision-making under pressure.
Cheat Codes: unlocking Sprites mid-match
Cheat Codes are glowing directional sequences found across the island. According to Games GG, you approach a code, match the arrow inputs in the correct order using your controller’s d-pad, and earn Sprites — cosmetic items that carry in-game buffs. There is no timer for input, allowing time to study the full sequence before entering commands. Wrong inputs restart from the beginning, but the code does not disappear, so unlimited retries are possible within a single match.
Codes appear in different colors indicating both the rarity of Sprite rewards and input difficulty (sequences range from 2 to 6 directional arrows). Rarity randomizes each match rather than remaining fixed per location. The Cheat Master Sprite automatically enters codes correctly if equipped, saving time for players who struggle with manual d-pad input. Players can also purchase a Cheat Code Locator from Sprite Dust Services vendors for 1,500 Sprite Dust (limited to one per day), which pinpoints code locations without manual searching.
PAC-MAN event: cosmetics and Mecha Ghosts
The PAC-MAN crossover launched on 17 September 2026. From 19 to 25 September, the limited-time PAC-MAN Sidekick is available in the Item Shop for 1,500 V-Bucks on its own or as part of the PAC-MAN Bundle for 2,200 V-Bucks. The bundle includes the PAC-MAN Back Bling (which cycles through Cherry, Orange and Galaxian cosmetics as you earn eliminations), the PAC-MAN Gloves Pickaxe, and themed footwear.
Beyond the cosmetics window, PAC-MAN Mecha Ghosts roam the map through 31 October. Insider Gaming reports these mini-bosses have elevated spawn rates on newly added PAC-MAN-themed islands and can be defeated for high-tier mythic loot. PAC-MAN Sprites are also available as in-game collectibles throughout the season.
Map updates and other crossovers
Override Season transforms portions of the island with video game–themed locations. The map now includes Tetris tetromino blocks integrated into the landscape, Sonic’s Green Hill Zone complete with loop-de-loops and golden rings, and PAC-MAN Ghost Gang clouds marking ghost-themed areas. These environmental changes persist through 31 October.
The season also features Kingdom Hearts characters — Sora, Riku, Kairi and Roxas — plus Sonic the Hedgehog with Tails. Mega Man and Persona 5 (Joker) skins are also available. Each crossover ties to the season’s celebration of video game legacy and arcade culture.
How to play on PC
Fortnite is free-to-play on the Epic Games Store and requires no subscription to download or play. The game runs on Windows and integrates with your Epic account. No separate client fee or battle pass is required to access Override Consoles, Cheat Codes, or map events; optional cosmetics are cosmetic only and do not affect gameplay.
