EA Sports FC 27 on Nintendo Switch: What’s Confirmed Before Launch

Nintendo's Australian product page confirms the original Switch version of FC 27 lacks The Grounds and Clubs, but keeps four-player local and online play for up to eight. A pre-launch buying context piece, not a review.

EA Sports FC 27 launches on Nintendo Switch on 25 September 2026, just four days away as of 21 September, on the same day as the Switch 2 version. Nintendo’s Australian product page already confirms the most important difference between them: The Grounds mode, including Clubs, is only in the Switch 2 version. This is a pre-launch summary of what is confirmed for original Switch owners, not a review, and nothing here is based on play time with the game.

What Nintendo AU confirms for the Switch version

Nintendo’s Australian page for the Nintendo Switch edition lists:

  • Release date: 25 September 2026
  • Publisher: Electronic Arts
  • Players: 1 to 4 on one console, 2 via local wireless, 2 to 8 online (Nintendo Switch Online membership required)
  • Download size: approximately 29.8GB
  • Classification: ACB M
  • Feature note: The Grounds mode, including Clubs, is only available in the Nintendo Switch 2 version

Nintendo UK’s September release list, published 31 August, also lists EA Sports FC 27 for 25 September on both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, so the cross-gen release is confirmed on two Nintendo pages.

The Grounds and Clubs: the confirmed gap

The single most useful line for a buying decision is Nintendo AU’s statement that The Grounds, including Clubs, is Switch 2 only. If the online Clubs experience is the reason you play FC, the original Switch version does not include it, and no primary source suggests it will be added later.

What the Switch version does keep, per the same page, is local play for up to four on one console and online play for two to eight players. For households that play against each other on the couch, or who play online matches without the Clubs structure, those figures are the ones that matter.

Editions and early access on Nintendo

EA’s editions page, published 23 July, sets out the structure that applies across platforms:

  • Standard Edition: launches 25 September, no early access
  • Ultimate Edition: up to seven days of early access from 18 September, and EA lists it for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2
  • Ultimate Plus Edition: an early-bird pre-order between 23 July and 31 August, and EA states it was not offered on Nintendo or Epic
  • FC 27 Lite: a free version with limited modes, available from 25 September at 4:00pm UTC

EA’s page does not list which platforms FC 27 Lite covers, so its availability on Switch is not confirmed. If you were planning to try the free version before buying on Switch, wait for EA or Nintendo to state it.

What is not confirmed

Several things you might expect to find here are absent from the primary sources checked, and they are left out rather than guessed:

  • Australian price. The Nintendo AU page fetched for this article did not display a price. Check the eShop directly.
  • Whether the Switch version matches the PS5 and Switch 2 versions in engine and gameplay. No EA or Nintendo page reviewed for this article states it either way, so this article does not call the Switch edition a “legacy” version or a “full” version.
  • HDR, touch, GameChat and the Switch 2 file size. These have been reported from Nintendo’s Switch 2 store listing but were not verified for this article, so no comparison beyond The Grounds is drawn.
  • Performance. No frame-rate or resolution figures are published for either Nintendo version on the pages checked.

How to decide

If you own only an original Switch, the decision rests on whether Clubs matters to you. Without it, you still get the local and online match modes Nintendo AU lists, and the Ultimate Edition’s early access from 18 September applies on Nintendo per EA. If you own a Switch 2, the AU page’s note is the reason to buy the Switch 2 version rather than the Switch one. Either way, confirm the eShop price before committing, since it has not been verified here.

What happens next

Early access for Ultimate Edition buyers starts 18 September, with the standard launch on 25 September. Original Switch owners have a thin third-party slate this spring; the other confirmed cross-gen releases are covered in our Professor Layton release-date article.
